CODE OF CONDUCT

Lone Star Film Society Film Education Programs
 

For Student Participants
 

The Lone Star Film Society 501(c)(3) is committed to providing a collaborative, creative, and respectful learning environment across all of its film education programs. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Lone Star Film Festival Summer Film Camp

  • Shorts That Get Made: Short Film Screenwriting Lab

  • Any additional workshops, labs, camps, or educational programs presented by the Lone Star Film Society (collectively referred to as “Film Society Programs”).


All participants are expected to contribute to a safe, inclusive, and productive experience for fellow students, instructors, staff, volunteers, and guests.


By participating in any Film Society Program, attendees agree to follow the guidelines below.

Respect & Behavior

  • Attendees will treat fellow participants, instructors, staff, volunteers, and guests with respect and consideration at all times.

  • Discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, or exclusion based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, or cultural background will not be tolerated.

  • Profanity, inappropriate jokes, threats, or offensive language are prohibited.

Personal Boundaries & Safety

  • Attendees must respect personal boundaries. Unwanted physical contact of any kind is not permitted.

  • Participants have the right to say “no” and are expected to respect others’ right to do the same.

  • Romantic or sexual behavior is not appropriate during Film Society Program activities.

Conduct During Program Activities

  • Attendees are expected to follow instructions from instructors and staff at all times.

  • Film equipment must be used responsibly and only with instructor or staff approval.

  • Disruptive behavior that interferes with learning, production, or group collaboration is not permitted.

  • Participants may not leave program premises or designated activity locations without permission from staff, when applicable.

Substance-Free Environment

  • The possession, use, or being under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or controlled substances is strictly prohibited during Film Society Programs.

  • Smoking, vaping, or the use of tobacco products is prohibited during program hours and on program premises.

​

 

Technology & Social Media

  • Phones and personal devices may be restricted during instructional, workshop, or production time.

  • Participants may not privately message or interact with instructors, staff, or volunteers through social media outside of approved program communication channels.

  • Respectful and appropriate online behavior is expected in all Film Society Program–related communication and content sharing.

Property & Facilities

  • Attendees are expected to respect facilities, equipment, and personal property belonging to the Lone Star Film Society, partner venues, and others.

  • Damage to or theft of property may result in financial responsibility and disciplinary action.

​

 

Reporting Concerns

  • Attendees are encouraged to report any behavior that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable to an instructor, staff member, or program administrator immediately.

  • All reports will be taken seriously and addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.

​

 

Disciplinary Action
Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in one or more of the following actions, depending on severity:

  • Verbal warning

  • Parent/guardian notification (if applicable)

  • Removal from specific activities

  • Dismissal from the Film Society Program without refund

​

 

Acknowledgment
Participation in any Lone Star Film Society Film Education Program indicates agreement to comply with this Code of Conduct and all applicable program policies.
